Case studies and best practices
In Italy about 75% of the population lives in urban areas. According to United Nations estimates, the percentage of the world population that will live in urban centers between 20 years will be around 80% of the total population; therefore, the number of inhabitants of our country living in agglomerations is destined to increase further. To contribute to the complex design of the Agenda 2030, FEEM developed the SDSN Italia SDGs City Index, a composite indicator referring to Italian cities; a tool that provides the degree of implementation of the SDGs in the municipalities-provincial capital of our country. This, in order to help the communities premises to face the challenges still open that affect the individual cities, and to develop a consolidated database of indicators on sustainable urban development in Italy to be monitored over time.
