Concept notes and papers
Nigeria is experiencing rapid population growth and its infrastructure and social services are not catching up. The current practice whereby major infrastructure development is being carried out by the Federal Government alone is not sustainable. In this paper, I explore the powers of local government in Nigeria and how states and the federal government ought to decentralize their functions as provided in the Constitution. Proper decentralization will enable local authorities focus on local infrastructure needs and make government function from the bottom-up.
