The 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 10 to 21 March 2025, coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. Representatives from UN Member States, civil society, and UN agencies gathered to evaluate progress and challenges in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. The Paraná Local2030 Hub participated in CSW69 ensuring that SDG localization was high on the agenda through the activities organized by the local and regional government constituency.
On 13 March, Ms. Leandre Dal Ponte, Secretary of State for Women, Racial Equality, and the Elderly in the State of Paraná, Brazil, participated in the session "Localizing Equality: Women's Leadership and Multilevel Governance for Beijing+30 and the 2030 Agenda." This session was part of the side event "Localizing Beijing+30: The Municipal Movement Leads the Way to Equality and Democracy," organized by United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) at CSW69 in New York.
During her intervention, Secretary Dal Ponte highlighted Paraná's recognition as a hub for SDG localization, emphasizing the governance framework established in 2023 by Governor Ratinho Junior. She discussed the creation of a public fund—the first of its kind in Brazil—that finances women-focused projects with minimal bureaucracy, empowering municipalities to address violence and promote female leadership. With a state investment of nearly USD 5 million over two years, the initiative has driven significant change by supporting local solutions.
Secretary Dal Ponte also mentioned the “Caravanas Paraná Unido por las Mulheres” (Caravans Paraná United for Women) initiative, aimed at political engagement and leadership development. In addition, she highlighted the launch of the “Mujer Segura” (Safe Woman) programme to combat violence against women and the promotion of women’s participation in decision-making processes. Finally, Secretary Dal Ponte celebrated the approval of two laws she authored to strengthen women's rights, focusing on domestic violence and national care policies.
