The Global Festival of Action for Sustainable Development is a ground-breaking annual eventpowered by the UN SDG Action Campaign with the support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The Festival will bring together the global community taking action to make the Sustainable Development Goals a reality. It will recognize and celebrate the innovators, conveners and breakthrough actors who are transforming lives, tackling trade-offs and generating practical solutions to some of the world’s most intractable development problems.

Taking place in Bonn each year, the Global Festival of Action for Sustainable Development provides a dynamic and interactive space to showcase the latest innovations, tools and approaches to SDG implementation. The Festival will bring together a wide array of organizations and individuals – spanning multiple sectors and regions – to build synergies amongst different constituencies, increase mutual understanding, and approach problems and solutions from multiple angles.

The Festival will focus on three core themes in 2018:

INNOVATION AND DISRUPTIVE CHANGE

To deliver Agenda 2030 we need transformative change. What are new technological innovations that can help? Which underlying social norms and value systems need to be disrupted? How can disruptive change globally, nationally and locally be fostered at high pace?

CITIZEN ENGAGEMENT

Agenda 2030 was created with broader citizen consultation than any previous global political agenda. Why does it matter to include citizen voices in global political debates? How can people from around the globe be engaged in the implementation of the SDGs? How can the impact of citizen engagement be maximized?

COMMUNICATING THE SDGS

Everyone can contribute to achieve the SDGs. To do that everyone has to know about the SDGs. How can we reach people who are not yet aware of Agenda 2030? How can we reach those people we don’t usually reach outside “our bubble”? How can we make data and topics like governance be interesting - or “How to make data sexy”? How can national and local ways of communicating the SDGs be devised?

Do you have a story to tell? A project to share? A network to showcase? Then we want to hear from you!

In order to create a diverse, dynamic and inclusive event for the international SDG community, the UN SDG Action Campaign are calling for sessions, innovations, participants and… we want to recognize and celebrate some of your greatest achievements through the UN SDG Action Challenge Awards!

If you are interested in hosting a workshop, convening a discussion with specific stakeholders, hosting a hackathon, sharing practical skills and experiences or fostering a substantive discussion or interactive panel discussion around a thorny issue then – apply to host a session!

If you are interested in showcasing an interactive, innovative, digital or a project which harnesses cutting-edge tech – apply to host a booth at the Knowledge and Innovation Fair!

If you have an exciting project to showcase which has achieved demonstrable impact towards SDG Action, you might qualify for the UN SDG Action Challenge Awards! We are calling for the world’s storytellers, communicators, innovators, visualisers, connectors, mobilizers and includers to make themselves known!
