To generate additional opportunities for the engagement of all actors, the United Nations is convening an SDG Action Weekend on 16-17 September 2023 which will consist of the SDG Mobilization Day on Saturday, 16 September, and the SDG Acceleration Day on Sunday, 17 September, at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The SDG Mobilization Day (16 September) will create an opportunity for stakeholders from all sectors to convene inside the United Nations Headquarters and mobilize towards an ambitious SDG Summit and UN General Assembly High-Level Week. The SDG Acceleration Day (17 September) will be centered around the UN High-Impact Initiatives.

While specific outcomes are expected from each of the mobilization sessions, a conscious effort will be undertaken to ensure the overarching outcomes and messages inform the formal proceedings of the SDG Summit on 18 and 19 September.
The SDG Acceleration Day will be held on Sunday, 17 September 2023 from 09:00 – 17:00 (precise times TBC). It will serve to profile actions, investments and support to accelerate implementation at the country level between now and 2030.
The SDG Acceleration Day will build on the twelve high impact initiatives that the UN development system is mobilizing around in advance of the SDG Summit. The initiatives correspond with six major SDG transitions; five critical means of implementation and the transversal priority of gender equality and are elaborated upon in greater detail on the SDG Summit website .
Expected participants include Heads of State, Ministers, UN Principals and representatives from the private sector, civil society and other actors. The SDG Acceleration Day will include the following key components:

SDG Acceleration Day will profile a set of illustrative examples of countries or contexts where significant progress is being made as well coalitions of governments and stakeholders who commit to specific and tangible actions to scale initiatives according to national priorities in the coming weeks.
Who can attend the SDG Action Weekend (16 – 17 September 2023)?
The SDG Action Weekend will be open to representatives of all Member States, the UN system and organizations and stakeholders whose work is relevant to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs.
All in-person participants MUST have either a valid UN grounds pass or a Special Events Ticket issued by the United Nations to enter the United Nations Headquarters during the SDG Action Weekend. Please note that, as an exception, CSO badges (“N”) will be valid during the two days of the SDG Action Weekend (16 -17 September 2023).
Who needs to register for the SDG Action Weekend?
If you have a valid UN Grounds Pass:
Anyone with a valid UN Grounds Pass, including members of official government delegations, UN Entities, IGOs, media and Civil Society Representatives, will be able to access UNHQ premises on 16 -17 September without the need for additional registration.
If you DO NOT have a valid UN Grounds Pass:
All interested participants without a valid UN grounds pass will need to request registration to receive a Special Events Ticket. This includes those who are NOT members of the official delegations of Member States/GA-accredited IGOs/specialized agencies to GA78.

In parallel to the main programme, a limited number of high-level side-events, organized by UN Member States, UN entities, relevant International Organizations and stakeholder networks working in partnership and identified through an open call, will take place during the weekend. The open call for side-events closed on Friday 4 August 2023.
The SDG Summit Secretariat is currently reviewing all submissions and will only notify those organizers whose events have been approved during the week of 22 August 2023.
Only side events that have been submitted and approved through the formal application process will be included in the side event programme to be made available on the SDG Action Weekend website. For more information on the side-events process, please review the Guidelines document available here.
