The Global Task Force of Local and Regional Governments, United Cities and Local Governments, UNDESA, UN-Habitat, UNDP and Local2030 Coalition are co-organizing the Local and Regional Governments Forum (LRGF) during the SDG Mobilization Day at the SDG Action Weekend. The session will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 17:45 p.m. on September 17, 2023, in Conference Room 1 of the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The LRGF will highlight the commitments of local and regional government constituencies towards the 2030 Agenda. A special focus will be placed on local acceleration and local accountability through the lenses of the transitions and crosscutting enablers of the High Impact Initiatives and their relationship with action taking place at sub-national level. High-impact localization policies and partnerships for the goals and innovative commitments will also be announced, as well as local and regional governments' specific localization needs and aspirations to bring SDG implementation back on track.
The forum will bring together local, regional and national governments as well as representatives from the United Nations and other stakeholders to announce strong commitments, present coalitions for policy change, illustrate high-impact localization policies and launch the constituency’s political declaration to close the gap in the implementation of the SDGs and the UN Policy Brief on Voluntary Local and Voluntary Subnational Reviews. The forum will also be a moment to reflect on the constituency’s priorities and aspirations for the UN Summit of the Future in 2024 and the World Social Summit in 2025.
Please find attached the Concept Note for more information.
