The European Development Days (EDD) are Europe’s leading forum on international cooperation and development. The forum brings the development community together to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire innovative solution and new partnerships for the world’s most pressing challenges.
This eleventh edition will focus on the international community’s strategic response to the most pressing global challenges of the day, with a particular emphasis on the engagement of the private sector as a major partner in economic development.
EDD 2017 aims at promoting a new global strategy for sustainable development, focused on a balanced approach between the three components of sustainable development: economic, social and environmental. EDD 2017 builds on the objectives of the 2030 Agenda and on the European Commission's proposal for a new European Consensus on Development. Investing in Development is the focus of this year’s forum, highlighting the importance to increase and improve investments with the objective of achieving inclusive and sustainable growth and creating decent jobs for all.
The objectives are:
-to discuss strategies & approaches to respond to the most pressing current global challenges;
-to translate the Agenda 2030, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, COP 21 into policies.
Under the main thread of Investing in Development, the EDD 2017 agenda will be framed under three major themes emerging as key priorities in today’s current context: Investing in People and Planet, Investing in Prosperity and Investing in Peace and Partnerships.
The three themes are equally important, interrelated, indivisable and interconnected. Sessions at EDD 2017 must adopt an integrated approach when addressing specific topics, to highlight the interlinked nature of the new sustainable development approach.
The EDD 2017 programme will include auditoria and lab debates, brainstorming sessions, and project and report presentations. The forum will also feature a Global Village to showcase successful practices. Additionally, EDD 2017 will host a variety of activities under the EDD 2017 Youth Agenda to encourage greater youth participation.

"...Through a an ambitious, new and collective European development policy, we need to defend and promote a model of global prosperity that is truly shared and inclusive. We must mobilise all means at our disposal, including the potential of the private sector, to honour the commitments we made to the international community in 2015 and deliver in an integrated manner on the Sustainable Development Goals."
